Meet the Interns
The BA Debate Team welcomes four interns this fall
Here at Braver Angels we’re pleased to announce our newest cohort of interns. From expanding outreach to “tricking” polarizing algorithms, our organizing and social media interns are ready to advance the mission of the Braver Angels Debate team. Read on to get to know them!
Organizing Interns
Genevieve
Genevieve hails from the San Francisco Bay Area and recently graduated from Harvard College with a degree in Economics. She owes her involvement in Braver Angels to a footnote: in the final pages of the 2016 book Strangers in Their Own Land, sociologist Arlie Hochschild cites Braver Angels as the leading organization for bridge-building across political difference. Genevieve is excited to join the team as an organizing intern, and hopes to strengthen outreach to youth, working-class, and MAGA in particular. In her spare time she loves to read, run, and learn carpentry skills.
Mira
Mira was raised in Taiwan and recently moved to Ann Arbor to study Political Science at the University of Michigan. Her involvement in Braver Angels stems from a lifelong love of speech and debate. Braver Angels Debates are a perfect example of the compassion and a willingness to learn that is lacking from current political dialogue. Mira is thrilled to join the team as an organizing intern and looks forward to learning different ways to bridge people together. When Mira isn’t in the classroom, she spends her time hiking, listening to music, and doing theater!
Social Media Interns
Carsen
Carsen was born and raised in Pittsburgh and recently graduated from Point Park University with a degree in broadcast production. He discovered Braver Angels through his volunteer work with BridgeUSA as the president and co-founder of the chapter at PPU. Carsen is very excited to join the team as a social media intern and wants to learn more about how to trick algorithms into boosting nuanced content that bridges divides instead of widening them. In his spare time he loves to read, spend time with friends and family, and be outside!
Juliana
Juliana is a rising sophomore from Texas, currently earning her undergraduate degree from Baylor University as a Rhetorical Communication and Political Science double major. She learned of Braver Angels mission through a newsletter sent out by Baylor’s political science department and joined because the mission excited her as a debater and political science student. Juliana is stoked to join the team as a social media intern and hopes to grow the scope at which Braver Angels overall message is received. Outside of class Juliana can be found reading a good book, doomscrolling through Tiktok, or trying a new coffee shop.

Welcome, welcome, all! So nice to see fellow readers, fellow lovers of debate in its many different forms, and a fellow Texan (I went to debate camp at Baylor for several summers in high school). I love the idea of tricking the algorithms! When Carsen gets it done, I'll look forward to a training! :D
